National Honor Society Inductees

NHS Forms:

Membership into the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. NHS has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and communities. Chapters in more than 12,500 high schools across the nation strive to give practical meaning to the Society's goals of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student - the one who excels in all these areas. The standards used for selection are:

Scholarship - Demonstrated by maintaining an overall grade point average of 88 or above.

Character - Demonstrated by behavior inside and outside of the classroom

Leadership and Service - Demonstrated by activities on and off campus.

Membership is more than an honor. It incurs a responsibility and a continuing obligation to demonstrate the outstanding qualities that resulted selection. Membership also carries a responsibility to the local chapter.

The local WCS NHS chapter (Rowland Laxson) sponsored two major service projects in the 2006-07 school year.  NHS students worked with staff and students at Elrod Elementary school on a regular basis throughout the year in a special after-school program designed to elevate struggling students academically.  NHS members tutored students, assisted in coaching Elrod students, and simply provided a positive role model for these young members of our community.

NHS students also initiated a tutoring program for our own students.  They tutored middle and high school students in Math, Science and English for the spring semester.  In some cases, students paired up so that one on one tutoring was possible.  Tutoring for most students started at 7am and lasted until 7:30 am.
