WCS Annual Wildcat Golf Tournament a Huge Success
(April 2008) Westbury Christian School Athletic Association held its 7th Annual Wildcat Golf Tournament at Quail Valley Country Club on Monday, April 21st. The tournament featured 18 4-player scramble teams. According to tournament director David Cragle, “We couldn’t have asked for a better day with a nice breeze, comfortable temperatures and a fine golf course."

The tournament kicked off with a putting contest and a short-game challenge. After registration, the main event started at 1pm on the La Quinta Course which is an 18 hole Par-71 course. According to the Quail Valley Country Club website, “The La Quinta course sports a rolling layout up to the challenge of the best golfers while still offering the average player or the beginner the opportunity to play an enjoyable round of golf.”
Tournament players ranged from WCS 6th grader Kyle Cragle to longtime player Louis Cooper both of whom scored hole in ones! Kyle Cragle’s teammate and WCS Lower School Principal, Casey Farris, said, “On the 5th hole Par 3, there was a duck in the path and we prayed Kyle wouldn’t hit the duck; but, when he swung, the ball went up high and bounced twice and dropped in the cup!”
At the end of the day, players enjoyed a Texas style buffet barbeque including chicken, sausage and ribs. Several door prizes were awarded including Astros tickets, golf rounds at Oakhurst Golf Club, Pappas gift certificates and a golf bag. David Cragle said, “Because of everyone’s participation and the generosity of our sponsors, we raised more than twice what we’ve raised in past years, and the proceeds directly benefit WCS athletes and programs.”
