WCS Senior Jay Gilbert
Earns Eagle Scout Award

(March 2008) In a ceremony held at the First United Methodist Fellowship Hall, Westbury Christian senior Jay Gilbert was presented with the Eagle Scout Award.  Troop 549 Honor Guard, scout master William Folts, Gilbert’s parents and other family members and friends were present to honor him.  As the program started, Rob Heinly, Advancement Chair for Troop 549, said, “It is, right and proper that a Board of Review has made a careful examination of your records and qualifications.  In order that all may understand the completeness of their examinations, we would like to present a report on the qualifications of the Eagle Candidate.”

Fellow trooper and Eagle Scout Andrew Mathews attested to Gilbert’s proficiency in the various crafts and skills prescribed for the Eagle Rank.  The Board of Review affirmed that he qualified for the 24 merit badges required for the Eagle Scout Rank.  Stephen Wisenberger, also an Eagle Scout, stated, “…the applicant has demonstrated leadership ability in activities that are constructive and worthwhile, and therefore believe that he is qualified for the Eagle Rank.”

Jay Gilbert poses with his dad and three uncles who are all Eagle Scouts.

Anthony Mathews, Eagle Scout and fellow trooper, attested that the Board of Review had contacted Gilbert’s teachers, pastors, neighbors and others and found that the applicant was practicing the principles of the Scout Oath and Law.

William Folts, scout master of Troop 549, formally placed the Eagle Scout scarf and pinned the Eagle Scout badge to acknowledge that Jay Gilbert had officially become an Eagle Scout.  Gilbert also received an official Texas State Flag that had flown over the State Capitol with a letter of authenticity.

Jay Gilbert continues a very strong family tradition of Eagle Scouts.  His three uncles and his dad are all Eagle Scouts.  Gilbert said, “I take great pride in being able to accomplish such a great task.  And, I am very proud to join the ranks of my uncles and my dad.”
