Mayor Bill White challenges WCS graduates to make
the most of their God-given talents.

Mayor Bill White Addresses WCS Graduates

(May 2008) Mayor Bill White gave the graduation address as family and friends packed the Westbury Christian School gymnasium to witness 59 seniors receive their diplomas.  The ceremony began with the faculty entrance to the tune of “Pomp and Circumstance.”  The senior processional was very lively with lots of cheering and clapping as seniors made their way down the aisle to their seats.

The pledge of allegiance was lead by graduating senior Kristin Robinson followed by an invocation by graduating senior Ryan Keenan.  Mr. Robert McCloy, WCS Executive Administrator Emeritus, was present to announce the traditional and highly anticipated “Mr. and Miss WCS” as Ryan Keenan and Samaria Mouton.  Graduating senior Kim Ngo followed with the salutatory address.  Ngo said, “The thing that struck me most was the diversity at WCS. Yet everyone seemed to blend with each other, taking part in the uniqueness of the picture that is Westbury Christian. The fact that our appearance is different from each other becomes insignificant. We are all defined as the Class of ‘08 of WCS.”

The senior class Bible presentation followed with class president Russell Leonard presenting a Bible to incoming senior class president Emlynn Chazhikat.  In her valedictory address, Delisa Somoye said, “First and foremost, we need to put God first and keep God first.  Strive for above average and demand to maintain it.  Be the best everywhere you go.  Make your presence felt everywhere you go and make a difference.”

WCS Executive Administrator Mr. Greg Glenn introduced Honorable Bill White, Mayor of the City of Houston, who gave the graduation address.  Mayor White challenged the graduates to “make the most of what God has given you.  And as you succeed, don’t listen to that voice that says that because you may have more economic success, you are more important than another person.  The person that gets ahead is the person that cares about those around him or her.”

Ms. Marie McKenzie is honored by graduates
who she had taught in the 5th grade.

WCS Upper School Principal Dr. David Lacey presented the senior class and called each by name to walk across the stage and receive their diploma from Mr. Greg Glenn.  A reception followed for families and friends.
