WCS Faculty Participate in Teacher In-Service
(August 2007) A full week and a half before Westbury Christian School students started the new school year, WCS faculty was on campus participating in teacher in-service. Teacher in-service was a professional training program designed to prepare faculty with classroom management and teaching skills. The program also included daily devotionals and “Getting to Know You” activities.
For WCS faculty, teacher in-service was a great way to get started. According to Mrs. Karen Keese, WCS Art teacher, “Teacher in-service was a refreshing way to begin the new school year. Every morning we started off with breakfast together and an inspiring devotional with heartfelt singing and words from fellow faculty encouraging us to use God's Word as our guide through the new school year. It was a great way to bond with fellow teachers, and one of the few times in the year that we can spend time with all of us together.”
Dr. David Lacey, WCS Upper School Principal and coordinator of the teacher in-service, said the program included several professional development sessions. Teachers participated in “Effective Classroom Management,” technology orientation sessions, discipline meetings, lesson planning, Rubric grading, and several other sessions.
According to Emily Young, a new WCS teacher, “I have felt incredibly welcome and appreciated by everyone I have come into contact with. These past several days at in-service have been beneficial to me not only by getting me ready for this school year but also by allowing me the opportunity to get to know my new colleagues. I have especially liked the time we all spent together every morning eating breakfast, worshipping and telling ‘how I got to WCS stories.’”
According to Dr. Lacey, “Teacher in-service was a great success. Teachers were prepared for the first day of school and the entire school year.”
