WCS National Junior Honor Society Raises $1000 for Medina Children’s Home

(December 2007) With a tear in her eye, Mrs. Beverley Arnold, National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) sponsor and Literature teacher at Westbury Christian School, said, “It has to be the glory of God. Our students will never see the Medina children, but part of their hearts will go to the Medina children this Christmas.”

According to Mrs. Arnold, the WCS NJHS are sponsoring ten underprivileged children at Medina Children’s Home which is situated just west of San Antonio, Texas and provides a safe haven for orphans and single mothers with families. The children wrote wish lists to the WCS students. One child asked for a “pretty dress,” and another asked for a sheet for her bed.

The NJHS members organized the fund raising event and received overwhelming support. Several churches donated cash, and many students and parents gave money and gifts. A total of $1000 in cash was raised and many gifts were donated. Mrs. Arnold and her husband, Ralph, will deliver the money and gifts to the Medina Children’s Home.

According to Mrs. Arnold, the NJHS had several objectives including glorifying God, sharing wealth and love, touching the life of a child, renewing hearts, learning and enjoying giving and working as a team. Mrs. Arnold said the NJHS members were touched by the effort. The students asked, “What else can we do? Are the kids going to be okay?” Mrs. Arnold said, “This is what Jesus would have done.”
