Kristin Robinson Awarded Wendy's High School Heisman
(February 2008) Westbury Christian School senior Kristin Robinson was awarded the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award certificate during a chapel service. On hand to present the certificate was WCS head football coach Charlie Ward who was the 1993 Heisman Trophy recipient for college football. WCS athletic director Russell Carr wittingly said, “WCS now has two Heisman recipients.”
Robinson was nominated for the award based on her academic excellence, athletic accomplishments and her leadership qualities. Carr said, “Kristin has done well in basketball, volleyball, softball and track. She’s very involved in school activities. I have also taught her AP government and advanced math, and she’s a very good student.’
Created in 1994 by Wendy’s and the Heisman Memorial Trust, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award recognizes outstanding high-school seniors nationwide who excel in athletics, academics and in the community. For the first time in the program’s history, this year, in addition to being recommended by principals, teachers, guidance counselors and coaches, students across the country could apply for the award. The most exceptional students were then selected to advance during extensive judging processes conducted at both state and national levels.
Robinson said, “I think it’s a very astounding reward. All my peers were happy for me to get the recognition.”
