WCS High School Student Council Officers Elected
(May 2008) Westbury Christian School recently held student council elections for the 2008-09 student council representatives. Fresno resident Lauren Washington (junior) won the seat for president. Bellaire residents Luke Aschermann, Nicholas Leonard and Jon Scott (all sophomores) will serve as vice-president, business manager and public relations director respectively.
According to WCS Assistant Principal Reed Sutton, “This year's election was very good. The race for student council offices was pretty exciting. We even had to have a recount of the votes for public relations director to make sure of the winner. The winners have demonstrated leadership and loyalty within the school. They are charged with utilizing their leadership skills to improving our campus.”
Lauren Washington has been a student at WCS for 12 years. Washington said, “I am very familiar with the policies and procedures at WCS, and I want to encourage academic success by implementing a ‘buddy system’ and tutoring.” Vice-President Luke Aschermann said the student council provided an opportunity to represent and lead others in a positive way. He said, “I look forward to working alongside individuals who have a passion for the Lord and an appetite for excellence.”
Newly elected business manager Nicholas Leonard said, “I want to work to enhance student activities such as homecoming, pep rallies and sports teams.” And, public relations manager Jon Scott said, “I want to work with the student council because I want to make a difference.”
According to Reed Sutton, the WCS Student Council is the executive board of the student body. The council is a decision-making institution that considers positive solutions to campus improvements.
Westbury Christian School is a private, college preparatory, fully accredited, culturally diverse school offering unique educational opportunities for pre-k, elementary, middle and high school students. The school is located at 10420 Hillcroft at Willowbend.
