Veteran's Day Salute an Awesome Performance
(November 2007)Westbury Christian School’s K3 to 4th grade classes performed a very touching and patriotic Veteran’s Day Salute in front of an audience including family, friends and invited veterans. The 40 minute program was open to the public and was held at the Westbury Church of Christ auditorium. According to WCS music teacher Mrs. Cindy Fletcher, “Everyone was full of praise for the kids. They said the kids did a great job, and it was very moving for the veterans.”
The program started with the Kindergarten class singing and marching into the auditorium to the tune of “You’re a Grand Old Flag.” This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner. The Middle School Chorus made a special presentation with their performance of “My America.” Everyone enjoyed the “Yankee Doodle” medley by the first graders and the second graders’ Kazoos. Mrs. Fletcher said the fourth graders performed the challenging “Armed Forces Medley” very well.
When the “Taps” tune was played everyone stood up and the veterans in the audience saluted. “Welcome Home” by the fourth graders featuring soloist Kendall Ferguson was followed by the grand finale “God Bless America.”
Mrs. Fletcher said that while the students practiced hard and performed well, they had many opportunities to talk about who the veterans were and how they served our country. She said the experience instilled a wonderful sense of patriotism in all the students.
