Charlie Ward Named Head Football Coach at WCS
(January 2008) Westbury Christian School has announced Charlie Ward as the head football coach. Charlie Ward, Heisman Trophy winner and NBA star, has been working as assistant coach on the WCS varsity football team this year. According to Greg Glenn, WCS Executive Administrator, “WCS is in the process of developing a football program that will put a team on the gridiron that we all can be proud of, and I believe Charlie Ward will do just that.”
While Charlie Ward has had a lot of offers to coach in the Houston area, Ward has said he is committed to the Christian mission at WCS. The athletic program at WCS stresses the Christian component in developing an athlete. As a coach and as an athlete, Ward embodies the Christian character and athletic prowess that has become the hallmark at WCS.

Ward said he will draw on three resources to build a successful program at WCS. First, he will raise young men to love Christ and expose them to the Word of God and to challenge them to apply their Christian learning. Second, he will teach proper techniques in all aspects of football and assemble a coaching staff that will teach players proper techniques which will put them in a position to be successful. Third, Ward said, “I have had the opportunity to be part of a winning tradition in high school, at Florida State University (where he earned the Heisman Trophy), with the New York Knicks, with the San Antonio Spurs and with the Houston Rockets. I plan to use that experience and my understanding to build a successful football program at WCS.”
Charlie Ward is married to Tonja, his wife of 12 years, and they have two children. The family resides in Houston.
Westbury Christian School is a private, college preparatory, fully accredited, culturally diverse school offering unique educational opportunities for pre-k, elementary, middle and high school students. The school is located at 10420 Hillcroft at Willowbend.
