WCS Girls Take Championship at St. Thomas Classic
(Village News/Southwest News, November 27, 2007) The girl's high school basketball team at Westbury Christian School defeated San Antonio Incarnate Word in the championship match during the fourth annual University of St. Thomas Charlie Thomas Classic. The University of St. Thomas hosted the basketball tournament with 16 teams (eight girls' and eight boys' teams) participating. Games were played at the University of St. Thomas, and additional games were played at the Greek Orthodox Church gymnasiums.
The girls' field included Westbury Christian, who defeated San Antonio Incarnate Word in the Championship match 47-39. Other teams participating in the girls' tournament were St. Agnes Academy, San Antonio Incarnate Word, St. Pius X, The John Cooper School, AWTY International School, Christian Home School Athletics, and Northland Christian.
On the boys' side, Home School Christian Youth Association defeated St. Pius 68-57. HCYA has won three of the four tournaments. Bishop Lynch, Northeast Christian, Fort Bend Baptist, Dallas Bishop Dunne and Northland Christian also participated in the boys' tournament.
The winner of the Most Valuable Player for a second consecutive year in the boys' tournament was Jesse Sanders of Home School Christian Youth Association. The winner of the Kittsie Thomas MVP for the girls' tournament was Waltia Rolle of Westbury Christian School.
