WCS Head Coach Reed Sutton said, “We’ve won five tournaments this year, but this was the biggest. I hope this is the catapult that helps us to continue to improve our game.’
The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 39-15 halftime lead and never looked back as they put away Dulles 78-56. Amber Orrange scored 22 points, Jakeveya Mitchell scored 21 points, point guard Sonja Vuong had seven points and nine assists, and All-American candidate and North Carolina signee Waltia Rolle had 18 points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes of play. Rolle and her 6’7” sub Maddy Absher did a great job inside against the Kelsey Bone led Vikings. Bone is a 6’5” post player and is currently the #2 ranked player in the country.
The Lady Wildcats were led by the 6’6” Rolle who is averaging 17 points and over nine rebounds a game while hitting 62% from the field in approximately 20 minutes playing time per game. Lady Wildcat Amber Orrange runs the wing and averages 13.2 points per game while providing 7.2 assists and 5.5 steals. Mitchell, an outside threat, has hit 30 threes already while scoring 13.2 points, 3.8 steals, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Leticia Cuellar, another outside threat averages 8.6 points a game and has hit 39-93 of her three point attempts (42%).
Coach Sutton said there are lots of talented teams in the area but the Lady Wildcats “are an unselfish team.” Sutton said, “Defensively our players give great effort and sacrifice themselves and offensively they make the extra passes.”
