Jim McIngvale Will Address WCS Graduates
(May 2009) Westbury Christian School has announced that Jim McIngvale, well-known Houston business proprietor of Gallery Furniture, will address the WCS graduates on Friday, May 22nd at the WCS gymnasium. Greg Glenn, WCS Executive Administrator said, “Mr. McIngvale has demonstrated a strong connection to community service which epitomizes the Christian character at Westbury Christian School.”
Through McIngvale’s efforts, Gallery Furniture has become a USO World Wide Strategic Partner with aims to refurnish, redesign, and revitalize the over 130 USO Centers around the world. Gallery Furniture will provide $500,000 of in-kind furniture and world-class interior design services to most of the USO Centers around the world including USO Centers in Houston, Biloxi, Colorado, Kuwait, and Korea. Annually, Gallery Furniture offers a Christmas Furniture Giveaway where the friends and family of those in need are encouraged to write letters to Gallery Furniture explaining the specific needs of a particular loved one or member of their community. A committee of Gallery Furniture employees reads and reviews each letter to select a number of the most deserving families, which are given a donation of furniture.
Gallery Furniture also participates in many other community service programs by way of donations and hands-on service. For example, Gallery Furniture participates in the NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) walk campaign in Houston and Jim McIngvale served as honorary chair for the Houston NAMI Walk 2008.
McIngvale and his wife Linda have three children. His youngest daughter Elizabeth is the founder of Peace of Mind, a non-profit organization devoted to the research and cure of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, having struggled with OCD herself for several years. In 2002, McIngvale co-authored the book Always Think Big with Thomas Duening and John Ivancevich. The book chronicles the ups and downs of McIngvale's entrepreneurial career and offers readers advice on how to effectively market and manage a business.
