NEHS Charter Chapter Established
(November 2008) In a historic inaugural ceremony, 18 elementary school students at Westbury Christian School were inducted into the newly established National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS). According to the WCS chapter adviser Mrs. Annette Turner, “We are one of 300 schools nationwide being asked to establish a charter chapter.” WCS has the Jerry Cox Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society and the Rowland Laxson Chapter of the National Honor Society.
Mrs. Turner said the fifth and sixth grade inductees were selected based on their outstanding academic achievement, their leadership ability, and their service and community spirit. Turner stated that the inductees are model students participating in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, art contests, academic meets, talent shows, piano recitals, fencing, golf, little league, and volunteer services to name a few.
During the ceremony attended by family and friends, the inductees were presented with a NEHS certificate and pin. The proud inductees included James Matthew Douglas, Cory Garza, Peyton Gibson, Travis Hicks, Autumn Oliver, Lindsay Turner, Carmen Scott, Catherine Smith, Jon Zalud, Austin Bishop, Christian Carrow, Clayton Cooke, Carson Covey, Austin Fuller, Wade Hill, Evan Ledet, Kylie Sutton and Minna Wong.
Mrs. Turner said, “I believe the NEHS recognition and membership helps to motivate students to continue to be achievers and good citizens.”
Westbury Christian School is a private, college preparatory, fully accredited, culturally diverse school offering unique educational opportunities for pre-k, elementary, middle and high school students. The school is located at 10420 Hillcroft at Willowbend.
