WCS Senior Receives TAPPS
Academic All-State Award
(January 2009) Another example of where brain and brawn come together at Westbury Christian School is in senior Christian Broussard. At the recent All-School Awards Chapel, Broussard was presented with the TAPPS Academic All-State Award by WCS Head Football Coach Charlie Ward. The distinguished award from the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) recognizes both the academic and the athletic accomplishments of the individual.
In the classroom, Christian Broussard is an accomplished student achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.49 and currently earning a 4.0 his senior year at WCS. On the football field, Broussard is an athletic performer. This past season he made eight touchdowns, rushed 429 yards, returned 284 yards and ran 648 receiving yards. Broussard is also active in the community; recently volunteering with the Hurricane Ike relief efforts at his church, the Fountain of Praise on Hillcroft Street in southwest Houston.
But even with all his achievements, Broussard is a humble individual. Responding to the recognition, Broussard said, “My teammates are happy for me. They said I deserved the award. They want to see me do the same thing in college.”Coach Ward said, “Broussard is a quiet leader. He doesn’t say much, but he gets the job done through his example.”
Broussard is already looking at several universities including the University of Houston, Baylor University, Texas A&M and Trinity University.
Westbury Christian School is a private, college preparatory, fully accredited, culturally diverse school offering unique educational opportunities for pre-k, elementary, middle and high school students. The school is located at 10420 Hillcroft at Willowbend.
