Nine WCS Students Win at TAPPS Academic District Competition
(March 2009) At a recent All-School Chapel at Westbury Christian School, nine students were honored for their achievements at the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Academic District Competition. WCS science teacher and TAPPS academic coordinator, Melacyn Turner, presented the students with their awards as Mr. Greg Glenn, WCS Executive Administrator, read their names and their awards.
Rebekah Anderson placed 2nd in Ready Writing. Ingrid Guan placed 1st in Physics, 2nd in Number Sense and 3rd in Advanced Math. DeAndre Beadle placed 3rd in Prose Interpretation and 3rd in Solo Acting. Luis Chung placed 3rd in Spanish. Preston Meyers placed 3rd in Social Studies. Audris Ponce placed 2nd in Spanish. Jon Scott placed 4th in Original Oratory. Annie Pan placed 1st in Mathematics, and Emily Pan also placed 1st in Mathematics.
WCS placed 4th overall of the seven schools that participated including Second Baptist School, Fort Bend Baptist Academy, Lutheran South Academy, Lutheran High North, Concordia Lutheran High School, Northland Christian School and Westbury Christian School.
According to Melacyn Turner, 30 WCS students participated in the event, and “They all felt great about their participation and their achievements.” Turner said the nine students who won district awards will go on to the TAPPS Academic State Competition to be held in Austin, Texas on April 4th and 5th.
