WCS Teacher of the Year Awards
(May 2009) Westbury Christian School presented the “Teacher of the Year” awards to two very deserving teachers. Each year, an upper school and a lower school teacher are selected for the prestigious annual award. This year, upper school English teacher Casey Burton and lower school music teacher Cindy Fletcher were selected to receive that honor.
Greg Glenn, WCS Executive Administrator, presented Casey Burton with her award at the end-of-year upper school chapel. And, as is tradition, Casey’s entire family was there to surprise her as she received her award. Dr. David Lacey, Upper School Principal, attested, “Miss Burton has distinguished herself in her three years on the WCS faculty. As an English teacher and our AP Psychology teacher she has demanded the best from her students and gotten it.”
At the lower school end of year awards chapel, Mr. Casey Farris, Lower School Principal, announced Cindy Fletcher as the “Lower School Teacher of the Year.” Farris said, “When you pass by her classroom, you will hear beautiful sounds coming forth from instruments from all around the globe. She has a gift for recognizing talent and getting it to blend together for the perfect sound. She also has been blessed with the ability to take children at whatever level they come to her and help them grow to levels beyond what they ever thought was possible.”

In related news, Steve Hawley, WCS Bible teacher, was named “Educator of the Year” by the Bellaire Southwest Houston Rotary. The Rotary club said, “Steve has been instrumental in making a difference in the lives of young people at Westbury Christian School and as a missionary in Honduras.” In addition to being a coach, Bible teacher and mentor to hundreds of young people, Steve Hawley has helped raise money over many years for mission work in Honduras.
