Coaches Greg Glenn and Russell Carr are in great
spirits as they head to the TAPPS State Championship. |
Glenn and Carr Lead Boys and Girls Basketball to State Championship
(February 2006 ) Some fans and observers may say, “Well, that was expected. They always make it to the state championships.” But Westbury Christian School Head Coaches Greg Glenn and Russell Carr (boys and girls teams respectively) would be quick to say that the Wildcats have come this far only as a result of hard work and determination. It was one step at a time. Glenn and Carr, like all other coaches in the TAPPS 5A Basketball competition, worked with what they had, and the outcome was determined by game play.
In the TAPPS 5A semifinals, both the boys and girls Wildcat teams will face the same adversary – Fort Worth Christian School. After winning against San Antonio Christian this past week (66-46), Coach Glenn said that Fort Worth Christian is a faster and better team. “We are at the point were the winners go on and losers go home so everyone will be putting out their best.” After winning against El Paso Lydia Patterson (59-47), Coach Carr said that Fort Worth is the number one team in the state of Texas (private schools). Incidentally, the Lady Wildcats lost against the same team – Fort Worth Christian – in the semi-finals last year. But Coach Carr said that this year that the team is prepared. They are making sure that each person understands her role, and that they carry out that role to their best.
Coach Glenn said, “Every possession is important; every rebound is valuable; and every turnover is critical.”
Should the Lady Wildcats win the semifinals, they will face either Argyle Liberty Christian or Victoria St. Joseph for the championship. Should the WCS boys team win, they will face either Houston Second Baptist or Houston Lutheran North for the championship..
