Mr. McCloy Welcomes the new head football coach, Aaron Covington.

WCS Announces New Head Football Coach

(May 2006) In a much anticipated announcement, Mr. Robert McCloy, Executive Administrator of Westbury Christian School, presented the new WCS head football coach – Aaron Covington – at a recent WCS press conference.  Mr. McCloy said that “a new era has arrived in WCS football.  With the re-alignment of the TAPPS 4A district for the next two years, we find our school in arguably the strongest football district in the state.”  Mr. McCloy affirmed that Coach Covington has all the qualities to create and lead a winning football program at WCS.

Coach Covington has a long history of involvement in football.  He played defensive line at Southern Utah University and has coached football for 14 years.  Most recently, he has been assistant coach at North Shore High School in Houston.  According to Mr. McCloy, North Shore’s head football coach David Aymond said, “I know I’m cutting off my nose here, but absolutely without a doubt, Coach Covington is ready for the position!”

Coach Covington enthusiastically accepted his new position and briefly outlined his plans for the upcoming year including spring training in May.  Coach Covington emphasized his interest in developing the WCS football program while nurturing the academic performance of his students.   Dr. David Lacey, WCS Upper School Administrator, was present at the press conference to reiterate the school’s support for academic excellence for WCS athletes.  According to Dr. Lacey, Coach Covington is a certified speech teacher and will also be an academic role model as he teaches middle and high school speech.

Coach Covington said, “I plan to have a successful football program at WCS.  Discipline, a tireless effort and a commitment to be a champion will define the program.”  Coach Covington said he looks forward to getting to know the kids during spring training.  He plans to have summer camps and prepare for the fall football season.

Coach Covington is married and has four children.  His son, Isaiah, is in kindergarten at WCS.  Coach Covington attends Westbury Church of Christ.
