WCS Bible Students Visit the Elderly
For some folks a visit from a friend or neighbor is just a routine part of the day. But when Dan and Louise Rundell recently received over a dozen Westbury Christian School students at their home, it was a very touching event for everyone. According to Mr. Steve Hawley, WCS Bible teacher, the class had selected the Rundell’s to visit as they represented a great role-model for Christian couples. The Rundell’s have been married for 64 years and determined to hold firm to their commitment to stay together “for better or worse.”
For the sophomores in Mr. Hawley’s 10th grade Bible class, the visit was a “hands-on” session – putting into practice the Christian values learned in their Bible class and also meeting the required number of community hours for each high school student. Each student wrote an encouraging note to the Rundells, and all the letters were put into one manila envelope and presented to Mrs. Rundell. Mrs. Rundell said she would read the letters later because the kindness of the students had moved her to tears. The moment was touching and emotional for the Rundells and students alike.
Dan and Louise both live in their own home in the Westbury neighborhood. Mrs. Rundell is in her 80’s and has a heart condition, but she remains the caregiver in the home. Her home was immaculate and beautiful, and she was so energetic and gracious with the students that everyone enjoyed meeting her. Mr. Rundell at 91 years suffers from Alzheimer’s, but he was in good spirits sharing anecdotes with the students.
Mr. Hawley plans to do more visits in the near future.
