WCS Hosts TAPPS Academic Meet

(March, 2006) Westbury Christian School hosted the TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) academic meet for 4-5A Schools on February 23, 2006. Participating schools included Fort Bend Baptist Academy, Second Baptist School, Lutheran South Academy and of course, Westbury Christian School. Students prepared for and competed in events such as Calculator, Computer Science, Spanish, Number Sense, Advanced Math, Science, Ready Writing, and a variety of speaking events.
The following students represented Westbury Christian School: Hoang Dao, Khai Le, Abner Leyva, Josh Miller, Alan Pearson, Nancy Fitzpatrick, Jaiqi Chen, Don Yoo, Paola Estrada, Lindsay Calder, Meg George, Delisa Somoye, Rachelle Wang, and Karen McCarty.
Westbury Christian School students did well in a number of events. Khai Le placed 2nd in Science, 5th in Calculator, and 4th in Advanced Math. Abner Leyva placed 6th in Science. Josh Miller placed 3rd in Ready Writing and 6th in History. Alan Pearson placed 9th in Ready Writing, Nancy Fitzpatrick placed 10th in Ready Writing and 9th in Spanish, Jiaqi Chen placed 8th in Calculator, 9th in Number Sense, and 6th in Advanced Math.
Hoang Dao placed 10th in Science and 6th in Mathematics. Don Yoo placed 11th in calculator, 3rd in Number Sense, and 7th in Advanced Math. Paola Estrada placed 2nd in Literary Criticism. Lindsay Calder placed 4th in Literary Criticism. Meg George placed 8th in Literary Criticism. Delisa Somoye placed 7th in Spanish. Rachelle Wang placed 2nd in Mathematics. Karen McCarty placed 5th in Mathematics.
Several students advanced to the State level including Josh Miller (ready writing), Khai Le (science and advanced math), Don Yoo (number sense), Paola Estrada (literary criticism), Lindsay Calder (literary criticism), and Rachelle Wang (Mathematics). The State TAPPS competition will be held in Austin on March 31st.
