WCS Track in Top Three at State
(May, 2006 ) Coach Mary Andrews is ecstatic – the WCS varsity girls won the runner up title and the boys placed third in the TAPPS 5A state championship held in Waco, Texas! With 17 events scored, the WCS girls earned a total of 80 points which put them in second place after Dallas Christian. The boys earned 48.5 points which put them just 1½ points ahead of San Antonio’s Saint Anthony and 2½ points ahead of their local adversary, Houston Christian High School. Coach Andrews said, “Our kids did extraordinarily well – all of our kids were doing three events while the other schools were doing one or two events per student.” The WCS varsity track team entered 17 events with 11 girls and 18 boys in a field of 22 teams.
In individual girls events, Christina Ray finished 3rd in the long jump and anchored the 4 x 2 and 4 x 4 relay teams to 2nd and 5th place finishes.
