Park Bench Donated in Honor of WCS Senior

(May, 2006) WCS senior Tyrone Willis is leaving behind more than a memory.  A beautiful metal frame bench has been donated to Westbury Christian School in honor of Tyrone Willis by the Humble Intercontinental Chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. Each year, this organization selects a deserving senior and donates a bench to his or her school.  According to Barbara Smith, member of the Top Ladies of Distinction, Tyrone was selected by their 36 member organization based on his outstanding community service, in particular his work as area officer for the Top Teens of America.

In making the presentation, Mrs. Smith noted Tyrone’s extended involvement in community service.  Tyrone currently serves on the Houston Mayor’s Youth Council; he was the Teen of the Year 2004, he is the national editor for Top Teens of America; and he is also the area one chaplain for the Top Teens of America.  According to Tyrone, “I give leadership workshops to teens in the city of Houston.  I feel like I can make a difference.”  Tyrone said he was excited that he was selected and that WCS received the bench.  He said that the bench will be there for some time to come as a reminder that other students can be leaders in their communities.
