WCS Wildcat Basketball 2-0 in District Games
Wildcat basketball fans were treated to two exciting home games at Westbury Christian School last week. In its first two TAPPS district games, the Wildcats defeated Concordia Lutheran and Houston Christian High School. According to WCS head basketball coach Greg Glenn, “Getting off to a good start in district play is important.”
In the first district game against Concordia Lutheran, Glenn contends that the Wildcats didn’t shoot that well. Nonetheless, the Wildcats won 69-27 with four players scoring double digits – Dwight Miller scored 14 points, Rye Olson had 12 points, Jeff Francis made 11 points and Arturo Prieto totaled 10 points.
Friday night’s win against Houston Christian was a much narrower margin. In the first quarter, the Wildcats established an inside game and had the tempo going for them finishing the first quarter 24-8. At half time the Wildcats were still up 36-17. According to Greg Glenn, “The Wildcats didn’t play with the same intensity in the second half. We missed 13 free throws, took poor shots and didn’t close the game out the way we wanted.” Houston Christian inched their way forward narrowing the score 62-58 at the end of the game. WCS senior Jeff Francis was the leading score for the Wildcats with 14 points.
According to Glenn, the Wildcats will play each district opponent once this season culminating in a district tournament in February to decide the seeding for the playoffs.
