WCS Community Participates in Bike Ride for Multiple Sclerosis
(April 2007) The annual 150-mile bike ride from Houston to Austin to raise funds for multiple sclerosis has been a tradition for the Westbury Christian School community. According to Gracie Greer, WCS Upper School Assistant Principal, “My husband, John, has been riding in the BP MS150 for nine years.” WCS senior Antonia Spence and her mother have also ridden the 150-mile trek for the past 2 years.
Every year John Greer has worn a bandana during his ride as a symbol of his support for those afflicted with MS. This year John Greer’s pedal partner was a WCS parent, Mrs. Lewis, who suffers from multiple sclerosis. She signed the bandana before the ride, and John presented it back to her after he had completed the BP MS150. According to Greer, “The wearing and presentation of the bandana symbolizes the struggle and pain of those afflicted with MS and the hope to find a cure and make life better with the money raised from the ride.”
WCS senior Antonia Spence and her mom have been riding with the Urban Bicycle Gallery Team for three years. According to Antonia, she and her mom determined that riding the MS150 would be a great way to help those in need. For Antonia, the ride was very physical. She said, “Going up the hills are hard – you feel your legs burning. But they had people with multiple sclerosis along the road waving to you and saying thanks, and that really encouraged me. I’m glad I did it.”
