Troop 21127 complete investiture ceremony during WCS Lower School Chapel.

Troop leader and WCS parent Stephanie Simmons conducted the investiture ceremony for a group of 12 Brownies during lower school chapel.  The first, second and third grade girls, dressed in their official Brownie uniform, each received a certificate of investiture and recited the Brownie pledge as a group.  Parents of the Brownies were in attendance.

As a parent of twin girls at WCS and a former girl scout, Mrs. Simmons was motivated to organize Troop 21127 to offer extra-curricular activities to young girls at WCS.  The effort received full support from parents who see membership in the Brownies as an excellent opportunity for their children.  According to Mrs. Simmons, “Brownies learn about themselves, their families, friends and the world around them.  The girls have received their world association pin, and they received their investiture certificate today.  They are currently working on earning their ‘Try-Its’ in ‘Girls Scout Ways’, ‘Art to Wear’ and ‘Manners’.”    The girls also learn the Girl Scout sign, handshake, friendship circle, squeeze, the motto “Be Prepared”, and the slogan “Do a good turn daily”.

WCS parent Mrs. Dena Swasey serves as assistant troop leader.  Both Mrs. Swasey and Mrs. Simmons were Girls Scouts.  They said that they value the many lessons and memories from the Girl Scout experience and wanted their daughters to have the same opportunity.  According to Mrs. Simmons, “The program is based on four goals that serve as the foundation of all our activities and initiatives – developing individual potential, social interaction, values and contributing to society.  These goals are in direct correlation to the systemic approach WCS uses in its development of our children daily.”
