7th Annual Clothing Drive a Great Success
The 7th Annual WCS Clothing Drive received an enormous response from the WCS community. According to Mrs. McCloy, “This was the most successful year! Clothes are piled up high in my classroom!” Mrs. McCloy said that the clothes go to the Westbury Church of Christ Benevolent Center which is a registered member of the Southwest Houston Food Bank. The SHFB serves about 500 to 600 families every month. “These clothes will help people go on job interviews, and will provide many children with a second set of clean clothes,” said Mrs. McCloy.
Mrs. McCloy said the clothing drive started seven years ago during the sixth grade Bible class. They were discussing helping others, and one student asked, “Why can’t we help?” So the fifth and sixth graders organized the event including drawing posters to advertise to the community and coming in early every morning to accept clothing donations. The success of the clothing drive motivated the students to do more so they organized an Annual Toy Drive which is held in December and an Annual Food Drive which is held in April.
Mrs. McCloy said the annual drives help WCS students understand the benefits of helping others which is a core Christian value that is taught at Westbury Christian School.
