Epps and Ransome Sign Athletic Scholarships
Two Westbury Christian School athletes recently signed college contracts for full athletic scholarships. WCS senior Courtney Epps signed with Gardener Webb University located in Boiler Springs, North Carolina, and WCS senior Kia Ransome signed with Mississippi Valley State University located in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Epps will play basketball with the Lady Bulldogs in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and Ransome will play Division I softball with the Delta Devils.
Courtney Epps, who has played varsity basketball with the Lady Wildcats for the past three years, said she chose Gardener Webb over other colleges because the university was smaller and she felt she could fit in better. Epps said that GWU wanted her because “They liked how I attacked the basket, and how I can score from the outside.” WCS lady basketball head coach Russell Carr said, “I am very excited for her. She has grown and matured in the game. She will do very well.”
Kia Ransome has been playing basketball and softball at Westbury Christian School since the seventh grade. Last year Ransome suffered an ACL tear and underwent surgery and almost eight months of therapy. She said, “I wasn’t sure that I wanted to play again, but with the encouragement of my parents, I have worked very hard to get back into shape. I was hurt, but God was watching out for me.” Ransome plans to pursue an exercise science related major.
