WCS Interact Club Adopts Needy Families for Holiday Season
Christmas has come and gone, but four families in southwest Houston are still enjoying the giving spirit of the holiday season. Over the holidays, Westbury Christian School Interact Club delivered packages of clothes, toys, household furniture and personal items to their four adopted families.
According to senior Krystal Onwumere, WCS Interact Club President , four needy families from Russia, Iran, the Cameroons and Somalia were identified through a collaborative effort with the local YMCA. The Interact Club then went to work organizing a fundraising and collection drive in November. Donation bottles were placed in each classroom and a collection box was placed in the WCS Mundy Hall lobby. Onwumere said the response was overwhelming - $500 was donated and dozens of items were collected.
Just before the holidays, members of the Interact Club loaded onto a bus and stopped at the homes of the adopted families. Onwumere said it was a humbling experience. The families were all so appreciative. One family sang a prayer of thanks to the Interact club members while another family had prepared some traditional food.
Onwumere said the goal of the WCS Interact Club is to the serve the community for the betterment of everyone.
