WCS Art Students at TAPPS District Competition
(March 2007) Westbury Christian High School students submitted 75 pieces of art in 25 categories at the TAPPS Division 5A, District 4 competition at AWTY International School in Houston, Texas. Two on-site drawers and two art history students also competed in their respective categories. According to Mrs. Karen Keese, WCS art teacher, “I was extremely proud of all the work the students put into the TAPPS competition.”
And the students’ efforts paid off. Westbury Christian School placed 2nd overall with Second Baptist, Fort Bend Baptist, Lutheran South and AWTY in district competition. Fifteen WCS students received medals and 38 received ribbons. Joseph Apenteng (Jr.) received first place in Computer Generated Design; Daniel Docherty (Sr.) received first place in Mixed Media 2D; and, Sandra Ngo (Sr.) received first place in both On-Site Drawing and Applied Design. Ngo’s On-Site piece was a pencil drawing of Raggedy Andy. Ngo said, “It took me the full two hours allowed to draw the piece. I’m happy I received first place.”
Second place winners included Joseph Apenteng, Jim Chu, Courtney Eagleton, Kohlton Fry, Katie Keese, Khai Le, Alyssa Leyva and Jennifer Phung. Third place winners were Paolo Javier, Ariel Robinson and Delisa Somoye. Fourth place winners were Joseph Apenteng, Joy Chou, Khai Le, Sandra Ngo and Alan Pearson. According to Mrs. Keese, first through fourth place winners and 18 pieces of art will continue to the state competition in Austin, Texas at Concordia Lutheran on March 30th.
