WCS Teacher of the Year Awards
(May 2007) At the end of every school year, Westbury Christian School selects two deserving teachers – one from the upper school and one from the lower school – for the prestigious “Teacher of the Year Award.” This year, art teacher Mrs. Karen Keese and social studies teacher Mrs. Kyleen Bontrager were the recipients of the award for the upper school and lower school respectively. Mr. Robert McCloy, WCS Executive Administrator, said the award is given to faculty members who have demonstrated commitment, excellence and Christian faith in their work and relationships at WCS.
Mrs. Keese was very surprised and obviously humbled as she walked forward to receive her award at a recent chapel service. She was joined by her husband and three daughters, two of whom attend WCS. Mrs. Keese received a plaque and a small monetary gift as a token of appreciation for all the work she does at WCS. According to Mrs. Keese, “I just do my share. The students work very hard. I try to push them a little harder so that they will do a little better. And, they do! My family and co-workers encourage me. If there is any success, it comes from God.”
Mrs. Bontrager was similarly moved as she received her award at a lower school chapel service. Mrs. Bontrager said, “I was so surprised to receive the award. There are so many wonderful teachers at WCS who are very deserving of this award. I really appreciate that the administration has seen the work that I’ve done to enrich the lives of my students.”
