WCS Track Team Headed
to State
(May 2007)At the recent regional track meet held at Houston Christian High School, the Westbury Christian School track team placed in four track events – now, they are headed for the TAPPS State Track Meet in Waco, Texas.
The WCS track team had several representatives who showed their competitive spirit by qualifying for state. The girls won the 4x100m relay in 51.44. According to WCS head track coach Aaron Covington, “I thought the girls ran strong and hard. They did well out there!” Sophomore Johnita Goodman was first leg, freshman Victoria Apenteng was second, junior Delisa Somoye was third and senior Ijeoma Waturuocha ran 4th leg. WCS dominated the 100m and 200m events with Ijeoma Waturuocha placing first in both events in 13.20 and 27.08 respectively. In the boys 100m, WCS senior Asa Davis placed 4th in 12.03.
According to coach Covington, the girls performed well at state last year winning both the 100m and 4x100m. Covington said he believes the girls will represent WCS well at state this year once more. The TAPPS State Track Meet will be held Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
