Ms. Turner Receives Fiesta Black History Month Award
Ms. Melacyn Turner, science teacher at Westbury Christian School, was honored at the Fiesta Stores 13th Annual African-American Heritage Month Festival. Ms. Turner said, “I’m happy to be recognized as an educator during this time of Black History month.” Fiesta recognized 12 teachers from area schools in southwest Houston.
According to Ms. Turner, the Fiesta celebration was a huge formal event held on the Fiesta parking lot at the corner of Fondren and West Belfort. Hundreds of invited guests were in attendance including United States Congressman Al Green who received the 2007 Leadership Award. Ms. Turner said, “I was honored to receive recognition for the work I do in front of my peers and notables.” Ms. Turner received a plaque and a check in the amount of $250. The $250 can be used to buy school supplies for her science lab and classroom.
