Kayla West

WCS Student Benefits Special Olympics Texas

(May 2007) Westbury Christian School sixth grader, Kayla West, has been busy making and selling her earring creations.  She donated $1.00 for each pair sold, to Houston Westside Fundraiser’s annual event benefiting Special Olympics Texas, Houston Area 4.
Kayla said, “I wanted to find a way to help when my Grandmother, Gigi Margoni (this year’s Event Chairperson) told me about the fundraiser.  I didn’t know if I could raise a lot of money, but I think that it is important to do good things for others.”  She continues, “The Special Olympics Athletes work very hard in their competitions with their disabilities.  I love sports and I think that a lot of people my age take our abilities for granted.  My Goal is to raise $500.00.  I knew that I could not make that many pairs of earrings, so I asked everyone that I know to match the $40.00 that I have raised.

“Kayla exceeded her $500.00 goal, contributing to the $35,000 fundraiser.  She was the youngest to ever participate with the Houston Westside Fundraisers and we are all so very proud of her”, stated Carlos Villarreal, Publicity Chairman.  She is the daughter of John West of Houston.

The fundraising event was held at Bryant’s Park & Pavilion, 26913 Katy Freeway, Katy, Texas on April 28, 2007.
