Head of School Michael D. White shared all of the following great news with our WCS community today:
This is an exciting time for Westbury Christian School. In the past week our students have accomplished a great amount of success. The boys and girls basketball teams played extremely well this weekend (February 23-25) at the TAPPS State basketball tournament. The boys came away with their 21st championship, while the girls lost in one of the best championship games I have seen in a very long time. Give them a pat on the back. Our drum line and varsity cheer squad were there as well and gave awesome energy to all who attended. They work very hard all season and don’t have an opportunity to win a trophy. Be sure to thank them.
The CATaclysm robotics team won the Design Award at the South Texas State Championship this past weekend (February 25) as well. They competed earlier in the year and had already qualified for a national tournament. This past weekend’s win qualifies them for their first trip to VEX Worlds, the world-level championship tournament. Wow! That is big time! These students put in countless hours outside of school preparing for their competitions. Congratulate these students and Mrs. Leeson, who leads them to do incredible things.
This past Friday (February 24) our school hosted the TCSA Academic Meet at Memorial Church of Christ. Amanda Archer and her staff organized and executed a fantastic event. While I was in Abilene, someone from another school who was at part of the event commented on how smoothly things went. Everyone who volunteered their time deserves a big thank you. Our students’ results will be in later.
Our boys soccer team qualified for the playoffs this year. The last time this happened was seven years ago. They played their playoff game on Thursday, February 23, in San Antonio and lost to a very good San Antonio St. Mary’s Hall team. If you didn’t get to see them play this year, you missed out. They were a scrappy bunch who played hard all year. They also made history — along with the girls soccer team — by playing their home games at the West Campus. It was a great atmosphere.
Tomorrow, February 28, Lord willing, we will have our Opening Day for Mark Chapman Field. This is an historic event for the school. There will be free food and drinks for all who attend. The Honor Choir will sing the National Anthem. Mr. Randy King, Mr. Lee Martin, and Mr. Mark Hall will throw out the first pitch. It’s going to be a great event. The ceremony will start at 3:40 p.m., and the game will begin at 4:00 p.m. We need to start this early because we need to conclude the game before sundown.
It’s safe to say that this has been a “Banner Week” for WCS! I would encourage each of you to thank our God for these incredible blessings. We truly are blessed.
