UPDATE (Sept. 4) — David Barron of the Houston Chronicle included mention of the Westbury Christian and Westbury Church of Christ relief effort in a piece posted online:
Sunday morning, at the churches near Meyerland
“Across Hillcroft Avenue…members of Westbury Church of Christ reassembled for Sunday morning services after 900 volunteers over two days distributed a thousand bags of cleaning supplies to area residences, said senior minister David Yasko.
Two more tractor trailers filled with cleaning supplies and other items are en route from Churches of Christ outside Texas, and Yasko said those items will be stored at Westbury Christian School’s athletic complex, a converted YMCA, for distribution.
As for his sermon topic Sunday, Yasko said he spoke on confusion, based on all a call he said he received at his home in Sugar Land that said, ‘You need to evacuate. All the evacuation routes are closed.’
At such times, Yasko said, ‘You look at the word of God and then use common sense. If you can’t go anywhere, go up.'”
NOTE: This is intended to be a family-friendly service opportunity, so you are encouraged to bring and volunteer alongside your entire family (kids included).
