Each graduating class leaves a unique mark on Westbury Christian and has played a special role in their time at the school. The Class of 2022 is no different, and their memory and influence will last for years. Take a closer look at some of their defining traits and moments:
- The Class of 2022 has been shaping Westbury Christian for many years. Of the 26 graduating seniors, four students— Leo, Vanessa, Chayne, and Devin—have been at WCS since at least kindergarten. Four of their classmates have been at WCS for ten or more years—Aidan, Lorell, Kennedy, and Kendall. They truly are part of the fabric of our school.
- The Class of 2022 will be making an impact across the country next fall as they head to college. From BYU (Jason) to Sam Houston State University (Allanah), studying degrees from nursing (Darian) to civil engineering (Chayne), our graduating Wildcats will have an influence far beyond Houston. This year’s top collegiate destinations have been Texas State University, the University of Texas, and the University of Houston.
- The Class of 2022 has earned over $2 million in college scholarships. They were accepted into 83 unique colleges and universities across the country.
- The Class of 2022 has had service on their heart for years. In high school, they’ve collectively recorded almost 3,000 hours of community service despite the impact and limitations of the pandemic. But this group has been serving the community together since middle school, frequently working in local ministries and other community organizations. There are no doubt hundreds of unrecorded hours that have been spent serving across our community.
- Over the past several years, the Class of 2022 has benefited from learning from other perspectives to enrich their understanding of the world. This includes three classmates from China—Jason, Jamie, and Ethan—who have learned alongside their American peers for the past four years.
- The Class of 2022 has been involved in a wide range of activities on campus. Jill, Lindsay, Isaiah, and Sarah have invested in the theatre program, performing on stage and working back stage to make each performance special and memorable. Aspen has spent a lot of time befriending and supporting our Lower School students as a library aide, and Hayden and Heaven have served in leadership roles for our student council for many years. Devin has guided and impacted HOSA, including organizing a recent blood drive on campus. Many others, like Christian, have joined our new ASL Club on campus and encouraged the student body through their participation.
- There have been great individual accomplishments as well. In only two years at the school, Zaire reached the 1,000 Point Club with the basketball team. Joey led the boys track team this spring, reaching the state finals in the long jump. Leo has spent years engaged in our robotics program, earning the opportunity to travel with his team to the VEX World Competition in Dallas earlier this month. Chayne was recognized by the University of Texas as an Impact Scholar, earning a scholarship that covers almost the entire cost of tuition for four years.
- Perhaps most importantly, the Class of 2022 has grown closer over the years. They’ve overcome tragedies and challenges and shared exciting accomplishments and joys. And they’ve always been quick to welcome and support new classmates, including Sean, Jonathan (J.), and Aerik, who didn’t hesitate to engage and leave their mark on campus this year.
We will certainly miss the Class of 2022 as they graduate this week, but we know they will continue to grow as they depart WCS. We look forward to hearing how they make a Kingdom Impact in the future. Congratulations to all the members of the Class of 2022!
