Senior Spotlight: Robert James Bruce V, Macauley Miles, and Laila Stephens

We’re highlighting the accomplishments of three more WCS seniors this week. Each of them has helped uniquely shape the spirit of WCS. We’re proud to celebrate who they’ve become, and all that lies before them. Their contributions at WCS will not be forgotten.

Introducing Robert James Bruce V

Robert James Bruce V has made the most of his time at Westbury Christian School, building strong relationships, exploring his creativity, and leaving his mark through innovation and teamwork. As he looks ahead to college, he carries with him the lessons and experiences that have shaped him along the way.

Robert found his passion in VEX Robotics, where he thrived in an environment that blended hard work, creativity, and competition. Through this experience, he developed not only technical skills but also a love for problem-solving and teamwork. He credits Jacob Ward as an influential mentor, someone who modeled patience, authenticity, and leadership while guiding him through both challenges and successes.

Throughout high school, Robert has taken pride in his accomplishments, from excelling academically to earning top honors at robotics competitions—including winning Excellence at his final regular season tournament. His faith has also grown through meaningful connections and a strong Christian community, reinforced during mission trips to New Iberia over the past two years. Guided by Proverbs 18:15, he values understanding and seeking truth for himself.

Whether collaborating with teammates in Robotics, performing in band, or building lasting friendships, Robert has fully embraced the WCS experience. He hopes to leave a legacy by sharing his knowledge and helping future students succeed in VEX Robotics.

As he prepares for the next chapter, Robert is excited for the opportunities ahead and grateful for the relationships that have shaped him. His time at WCS has equipped him well, and he looks forward to what’s next.

Meet Macauley Miles

Macauley Miles’ time at WCS has been defined by resilience, leadership, and a deepening faith. After graduation, she plans to attend either Clark Atlanta University or Hampton University, pursuing a degree in business with a minor in political science.

Through AP Government, Macauley discovered a passion for leadership and civic engagement, where she gained a clearer understanding of how to influence change and serve others well. She credits Mrs. Turner as a profound influence in her life, consistently encouraging her to be authentic and reminding her that even in difficult seasons, joy will come. Through that mentorship, Macauley has built a foundation of faith that continues to sustain and strengthen her.

Her high school journey is filled with accomplishments she’s proud of, including persevering through a demanding week of daily tests and succeeding through discipline and determination. Beyond academics, Macauley’s faith has grown through life’s challenges, learning to trust God even when the path ahead seemed unclear. Guided by Exodus 14:14, she has learned to be still and allow God to fight her battles.

Macauley honed her leadership skills by leading devotions for freshman girls during the retreat, drawing on her own experiences to encourage and guide others. She also enjoyed competing in sports, representing the Wildcats in basketball, softball, soccer, track, and volleyball. Whether on the court or the field, or investing in younger students, she has embraced every opportunity to lead and connect. She hopes to leave a legacy of perseverance, resilience, and strong leadership.

As she looks ahead, Macauley is excited to step into a new season she has long prayed for. With a heart for mentorship and a desire to stay connected with those she’s impacted, she leaves WCS prepared and confident for all that lies ahead.

Introducing Laila Stephens

Laila Stephens’ Wildcat journey began in kindergarten and has grown into a story centered on teamwork, perseverance, and the relationships that have meant the most to her. As she looks ahead to college, she carries with her the experiences and connections that have defined her time at WCS.

Basketball has been at the heart of Laila’s high school experience, providing not only a place to compete but also a community that has brought her joy each day. She credits Coach Sonja with teaching her the importance of the relationship between player and coach, an influence that has shaped her both on and off the court.

Among her proudest accomplishments is her academic success, achieved by staying focused and avoiding procrastination. With regard to faith, Laila offers an honest perspective, encouraging others to seek a personal relationship with Christ in their own time, and recognizing that growth often comes with maturity. Guided by 1 Corinthians 10:31, she recognizes the importance of living with purpose.

Laila’s involvement in basketball has been the cornerstone of her WCS experience, helping her build meaningful friendships and contribute to a team that made history for the varsity women’s program. The camaraderie and shared experiences with her teammates have been some of her most cherished memories.

As she prepares for what’s next, Laila is excited about the opportunities ahead while holding on to the relationships that have shaped her life so far. Her time at WCS has been marked by growth, connection, and the lasting impact of being part of a team.
