A Full Circle Journey for Mr. Curtis

At Westbury Christian School (WCS), we love celebrating the incredible educators who shape our students' lives both academically and spiritually. This month's Faculty Spotlight features Mr. Curtis, our dynamic teacher of Yearbook, VEX Robotics, MSENG, and AP Computer Science Principles, and a proud WCS alumnus. Mr. Curtis has been woven into the fabric of our community since the 2005 school year, starting as a student, transitioning to a part-time Extended Care and Summer Camp worker, and now thriving as a dedicated full-time teacher. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!

Faith-Fueled Teaching: Integrating God's Word into Every Lesson

One of Mr. Curtis's favorite aspects of teaching at WCS is the freedom to incorporate the Word of God into everything he does. This shines brightly in his VEX Robotics program, where the team's number, 1815, is inspired by Proverbs 18:15:

“The mind of the discerning acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks it.”

This powerful verse serves as a constant reminder to students of the excellence they are capable of as children of God. It encourages them to remain hungry for learning, growing, and improving in all they do.

Mr. Curtis hopes his students grasp how the principles of engineering and excellence can deepen their appreciation for the Grand Design God has created. "Through hands-on projects," he shares, "we see God's intricate handiwork reflected in the world around us."

Hands-On Learning Across Classrooms

In Yearbook, students dive into technology as they plan, template, and design pages. These skills surprisingly mirror many engineering processes, fostering creativity and precision.

VEX Robotics takes dedication to the next level. "If the students are willing, I am willing!" says Mr. Curtis. Preparation for competitions often means late nights. Before the state competition, the team stayed at school until 11:30 PM on several occasions, ensuring they had the best shot at success.

What truly lights up Mr. Curtis's classroom? The students themselves. "They shine the most," he notes. "Many times, they even teach me new things about VEX. I love learning about their passion and unique design processes."

A Blessing to Our WCS Family

We are incredibly blessed to have Mr. Curtis as an educator, mentor, and role model in our community. His lifelong connection to WCS, combined with his enthusiasm for faith-integrated STEM education, inspires Wildcats to pursue excellence with purpose.

Thank you, Mr. Curtis, for your unwavering commitment! We can't wait to see the innovations your students create next.
