As we close out this year’s Senior Spotlight series, we’re honored to celebrate three more seniors whose journeys have helped shape the WCS community. Through academics, athletics, leadership, and personal growth, each of these students has left a meaningful impact and is preparing to step confidently into an exciting future.
Introducing Jayvien Cummings
Jayvien Cummings has spent his high school years growing both on and off the basketball court. After graduation, he plans to attend college and continue playing basketball, carrying forward the lessons and discipline the sport has taught him throughout his time at WCS.
One of Jayvien’s favorite classes was Senior Bible, where he enjoyed spending time with his classmates and building stronger relationships with fellow seniors. Coach Carr made a lasting impact on his life, teaching him important lessons that extended far beyond athletics. Jayvien also found confidence in the classroom, particularly this year in Economics, where he surprised himself with how well he performed academically.
His faith journey was shaped by experiences like the Black History Month Chapel and by learning the importance of consistency in prayer, inspired by Romans 12:12. His advice to younger students is simple but meaningful: make wise choices.
Basketball was central to Jayvien’s experience at WCS, teaching him discipline, perseverance, and hard work while helping him grow as both an athlete and a person. He also discovered a unique talent for solving Rubik’s Cubes, adding another layer to his high school memories. Whether it was Senior Experience, pep rallies, or friendships with classmates like Macauley Miles, Jayvien found encouragement and support throughout his time at WCS.
As he prepares for the next chapter, Jayvien is excited about the freedom and opportunities that come with college life while still staying grounded in the values he’s learned at WCS. He plans to stay connected by returning to cheer on future basketball teams.

Meet Nyla Garrick
Nyla Garrick’s journey at Westbury Christian School has been filled with academic achievement, meaningful friendships, and personal growth. Following graduation, she plans to attend New York University and major in Global Liberal Studies with an emphasis on Law.
History classes quickly became Nyla’s favorite because they never felt like traditional lectures, allowing her to fully engage with the material and enjoy learning. She credits both Mrs. Banks and Mr. Reid with preparing her well for college by challenging and encouraging her academically. One of her proudest accomplishments came during her junior year when she qualified for the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test after taking the PSAT.
Attending WCS introduced Nyla to a new way of incorporating faith into daily life. Through chapel services, mission trips, and everyday experiences, her relationship with God became more natural and integrated into who she is. The Spring Break mission trip especially influenced her spiritual growth and perspective. Guided by Philippians 4:13, Nyla encourages younger students not to become discouraged when facing challenges.
Golf became an important part of Nyla’s high school experience, teaching her patience while also helping her form friendships with classmates she might not have met otherwise. She found comfort in the welcoming community at WCS, where she always felt supported and at ease among friends and peers. Her friendship with Evelyn Carr, who continually encouraged and challenged her, played a major role in her journey.
As she looks toward the future, Nyla is excited to begin college in New York and embrace all the opportunities ahead. Her time at WCS has prepared her well for this next season, and she leaves behind a legacy of determination, friendship, and growth.
Introducing Walker Wills
Walker Wills’ time at Westbury Christian School has been marked by creativity, dedication, and a passion for meaningful experiences. After graduation, he plans to major in Digital Communications and pursue a career as a sports or concert photographer.
One of the most impactful parts of Walker’s high school experience was Robotics. While waking up early on Saturday mornings was a chore at first, the long hours involved in competition became a source of lifelong memories and strong friendships. Through both victories and challenges, Walker found a sense of purpose and camaraderie that made the experience unforgettable. He credits Mr. Curtis as the educator who made the greatest impact on his life, pointing to the countless late nights spent helping students prepare for competitions and his consistent example of faith, leadership, and dedication.
Walker’s faith also grew through meaningful experiences outside the classroom, especially during the New Iberia mission trip. The trip allowed him to build new relationships and have conversations that left a lasting impression. He encourages younger students to put forth consistent effort in all they do and to “find a way” to keep growing and improving.
Reflecting on his time at WCS, Walker hopes others will remember the dedication he brought to the things he loved. He wants future students to feel inspired to pursue growth and fulfillment through their own passions and hard work. As he looks ahead, he’s excited for new opportunities, new environments, and the chance to travel and explore more of the world. Even after graduation, he plans to stay connected through theater productions—and, as he joked, the school’s Minecraft server.
We are grateful for the ways these seniors have contributed to the life of the school and look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the years ahead. Congratulations to the Class of 2026 as they begin an exciting new chapter beyond WCS!
