The Voices of Westbury: Inside the Art Room with Mrs. Okwuonu

In every school, there are spaces that feel a little magical—rooms where imagination takes the lead and students discover new pieces of themselves. At Westbury Christian School, one of those spaces is the art room where Mrs. Audrey Okwuonu helps students discover their creativity.

In this week’s Voices of Westbury feature, Mrs. Okwuonu gives us a glimpse into why her classroom is often known as “the fun class.” But as she explains, what happens there is far more meaningful than fun alone—it’s transformative.

She shares that the most rewarding moments aren’t just the classic “aha!” realizations, but the proud “I made this” moments. These are the times when students surprise themselves by creating something unique and special with their own hands.

Every day, Mrs. Okwuonu witnesses students bring their ideas to life, turning thoughts into something they can see, hold, and proudly call their own. Whether through a new tool, a medium they’re trying for the first time, or a technique that finally clicks, her classroom becomes a place where creativity and confidence grow hand in hand.

“I get to watch magic happen daily,” she says—and after hearing her speak, it’s easy to believe.

We are grateful for Mrs. Okwuonu’s passion, her warmth, and the joy she brings to our students. Her art room is more than a place to create—it’s a place where students discover their God-given talents and learn to express their creative voice.

Stay tuned for more Voices of Westbury stories as we continue celebrating the incredible educators who make our community so special.
