Voices of Westbury: A Family’s Story of Opportunity, Growth, and Faith

When families choose a school, they’re not just choosing academics—they’re choosing an environment that will shape their children’s growth, character, and future. For parents Jennifer and RJ Bruce, that decision led them to Westbury Christian School, where their three children are discovering who they are and who God created them to be.

In this week’s Voices of Westbury feature, the Bruces share what stood out most when they first explored the school: opportunity.

“Westbury Christian gives your kids a lot of opportunities,” they explain. From band and art to sports, robotics, drama, and strong academics, students are encouraged to explore a wide range of interests. And what makes that experience even more meaningful is that students don’t have to come in as experts—they simply need the willingness to try.

That freedom to explore has made a lasting impact on their son, James. Through robotics, he’s not only developed new skills but also stepped into leadership, gaining real-world experience through competitions and team collaboration. It’s the kind of growth that goes beyond the classroom, building confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose.

But for the Bruce family, what truly sets Westbury Christian apart is its Christ-centered foundation.

“All the teachers have biblical values,” they share. “They really instill that in their teaching.”

This means every subject is taught through the lens of faith, shaping not only what they learn, but who they are becoming. While the Bruce family has always prioritized church and Sunday school, having that same foundation reinforced daily—through classroom instruction, chapel, and community—has deepened their children’s character and spiritual growth in powerful ways.

“It’s been a great reinforcement,” Mr. Bruce shares.

At Westbury Christian School, students are given the space to explore their interests, develop their gifts, and grow in their faith—all within a supportive, Christ-centered community. For families like the Bruces, it’s more than a school. It’s a place where their children are being prepared for life with purpose.
